Root Canal Work

Root Canal Work

Root canal treatment is needed when the blood or nerve supply of the tooth (known as the pulp) is infected through decay or injury. When this happens, the infection may spread to to the root canal system of the tooth eventually resulting in abscesses. If this treatment is not carried out the infection will spread and the tooth may need to be taken out.

The treatment is done under local anaesthetic and should feel no different to an ordinary filling. After the treatment, the root-treated tooth should be treated just the same as any other tooth with daily cleaning, preferably with a fluoride toothpaste.
